We oppose any direct or indirect support by our government for any religion, religious belief, or religious teaching. Claims are made that sex abstinance education helps to prevent AIDS. The religioius right promotes sexual abstinance programs that have been proven not to work. The only proven program to prevent AIDS is condom distribution. That is why hundreds of thousands of condoms are bein distributed to participants in the Olympic Games in Vancouver (An average of about 15 condoms per participant). This article by David Waters in the Washington Post brings up a program in which our government is paying for such a religious program:
David Waters in the Washington Post wrote: Should the federal government pay for a Bible-based sex education program? What if the program instructed youth that "God has a plan for sex and this plan will help you and protect you from harm"? What if it urged them to memorize and recite Psalm 119:9 ("How can a young man keep his way pure? By living according to your word")? What if it was funded by the State Department to help villages in AIDS-ravaged Africa? Click Here to read entire article.
